Description:

The Department for Development and Cohesion Policies was set up inside the Ministry for Economy and Finance in 1998, with the institutional task of coordinating interventions for the socio-economic re-balancing and economic development of Objective 1 and Objective 2 areas, in accordance with art. 119 of Italian Constitution. In May 2006 (law-by-decree n.181/06, converted in Law n.233/06) the Department was incorporated into the Ministry for Economic Development and its structure and functions were reorganized with Presidential Decree n.225 of 14 November 2007.

The Department carries out analysis of territorial economic trends and financial flows for development, contributing to the elaboration of Government?s economic and programming documents; evaluates public investments and controls their implementation; promotes and manages Institutional Twinnings and bi-lateral cooperation projects both with Candidate and Third Countries; outlines and supports capacity building projects for Public Administrations in charge of managing public investments.

The Department contributes to defining the Italian position about Cohesion Policies matters, including the ?European Territorial Cooperation? Objective; coordinates and monitors the implementation of the ?European Territorial Cooperation? Operational Programmes.

Other EU Structural Funds programmes coordinated by the Ministry for Economic Development

The Department coordinated the implementation of Community Support Framework 2000 ? 2006 for Objective 1 Regions, and coordinates the National Strategic Reference Framework 2007 - 2013: promotes the planning of public investments and incentives financed by FAS (National Fund for Under-utilised Areas) and their implementation through Programme Institutional Agreements (signed by the Regions and the Central Government) and Framework Programme Agreements.
