Capacity building event on water monitoring in Ferrara

The Province of Ferrara, as lead partner of EU.WATER project, with the technical support of CFR (Ferrara Research Centre), organized on 11-18 July an intensive seminar with the objective to reinforce the general capacities of administrations from Serbia, Croatia, Moldova and Ukraine in water and environmental monitoring procedures, so that these can better address local and regional policy planning for agricultural and water-related issues.
Eight experts from AZRRI, the Regional Agency for Agriculture of Istria, the Institute for Agricultural Economics of Beograd, the Technical University of Odessa and Rayon Council focused on critical aspects identified in the use of GIS mapping technology, sampling of aquifers and surface water (on-the-field training carried out in the Ferrara pilot test rural area) and - finally - chemical and LAB analysis on the main nitrogen analytes with particular reference to the necessary equipment. A full-time dedicated team of experts from CFR (Ferrara Research Centre) and the University of Ferrara coordinated the intensive week seminar and evaluated the state of achievement of the EU.WATER results achieved so far. Beyond the educational aspect, which is actually leading to reinforce the quality of the maps of water-use vulnerabilities in the pilot areas, the capacity building has inspired further opportunities of international cooperation among the partners and among the involved universities. The video-documentary on the event will be soon available at: http://www.eu-water.eu.
