Smart Rivers meets NEWADA

The NEWADA project was among the many themes covered in the technical programme of the 5th Smart Rivers Conference which was held on September 13-16 in New Orleans, USA. In session 4 D "Public Policy/ Finance Theme", Hél?ne Gilkarov of via donau, the Austrian Waterway Administration presented the NEWADA Project in the Danube Corridor. Harmonized cooperation and coordination in all aspects of the NEWADA project and the creation of new framework conditions for PR pro Danube were at the core of the presentation.
Ms. Gilkarov, who is responsible for Activity 6.2. "Communication and lobbying for Danube development", presented the NEWADA project and how it inscribes itself in the framework of the SEE Programme of the EU and of the broader goals of the EU Strategy for the Danube region, as well as the importance of emphasizing the role of the NEWADA partnering organization in a new form of customer oriented waterway management and administration. Furthermore, she talked about the "NEWADA approach" to PR pro Danube.

Within Activity 6.2 of the NEWADA Project, known as "Communication and lobbying for Danube development", a new concept has been created, the PR managers Workshops, during which the individuals who are responsible for PR pro Danube in their organizations meet periodically.
Such meetings have been an opportunity to analyse in a group the situation of PR in all NEWADA partnering countries, see what is there, what is available and decide together what is missing and what can be improved. During the first meetings, the main point of focus was the situation of national waterway administrations in terms of PR, both from the standpoint of the PR manager and from the standpoint of the organisations as a promotion agent of the waterways. It is during the following meetings that the NEWADA Toolbox was born as it became clear to all participants that harmonization of standards starts with a harmonized approach to PR and common denominators. Thus, the NEWADA PR Toolbox provides basic PR tools to aid those communicating about inland navigation. It contains a selection of items designed to make it easy to use and to convey key messages on the advantages of inland waterway transport in the Danube region.
